Springs Sermon 2023-03 (3)

Matthew 7:13-29

What is wisdom?

  • To see things as God sees them
  • To do things as God would have them done
  • To see beyond the present into the future
  • To pay attention to what God is saying and obey it

What is foolishness?

  • To think that you’re smarter than God
  • To do things your own way rather than God’s way
  • To not pay attention to or obey what God is saying

What is the main difference between the rock and the sand?

  • The rock is hard and tough
  • The sand is soft and easy
  • The rock is strong and stable
  • The sand is weak and shaky

What does the Rock represent in our lives today?

  • The Lord Jesus Christ, John 14:6
  • The Word of God, John 1:1, Psalm 119:89, 1 Peter 1:23

What does the sand represent in our lives today?

  • The ways (belief, culture, fashion and strategy) of this world
  • 1 John 2:15-17
  • The world is the wife of Satan
  • The Church is the Bride of Christ

Why will someone build their life on sand instead of on the rock?

  • The sand is the broad way – easy-going and permissive, allows for distraction and compromise
  • The rock is the narrow way – demanding and rigorous, requires attention and obedience

What is the only alternative to serving God (Jesus Christ) according to Matthew 6:24?

  • Mammon (the flesh, the world and the devil)
  • If you’re not serving God, you are serving Mammon!
  • If you don’t have time for God, you are having time for Mammon

How do you build your life on the Rock?

  • Faith and Obedience
  • Humility and Yieldedness
  • Self-Denial and Self-control
  • Righteousness and Holiness

How do you build life on sand?

  • Unbelief and Disobedience
  • Pride and Selfishness
  • Self-promotion and Self-indulgence
  • Worldliness and Carnality
  • Idolatry and Immorality

Some examples of building your life on sand:

  • Not attending church meetings. Using church time to work, sleep, play or chat
  • Not paying your tithes. Using God’s money to build your own house, savings or investment
  • Not watching and praying. Investing rather in eating, drinking and partying
  • Not practising modesty and moderation. Investing rather in materialism and extravagance
  • Not preaching the Word (the Truth). Investing rather in seeking the recognition and praise of men
  • Serving other gods (false gods), in addition to the only true God
