Matthew 17:14-21, 2 Chronicles 7:13-14

What does Jesus mean by telling us to abide in Him according to John 15?

  • To abide is to actively engage!
  • To abide is to remain steadfast and endure faithful
  • If you are born-again, you are a branch in Christ
  • Jesus is your vine and God the Father is your gardener, John 15:1
  • Gardening is the business of cutting!
  • The overarching goal of the Father is that you should bear fruits of righteousness
  • Believers who do not abide in Christ will not bear fruit
  • Believers who do not bear fruit will be cut-off by the Father (and ultimately dumped into the bin of Hell) because they have proved themselves useless to the Kingdom of God, John 15:2,6
  • Believers who bear fruit will be pruned (purified) by the Father so that they can bear more fruit, John 15:2,8

Why are believers not attending church prayer meetings?

  • They are either too busy or too lazy!
  • They don’t know the value/importance of prayer
  • They prefer relaxation and entertainment
  • They don’t care enough about the salvation of souls
  • They are dominated by pride and selfishness
  • They don’t care enough about the advancement of righteousness
  • They are dominated by the cares of this life
  • They are not kingdom-minded!
  • They believe that others should do it for them

Why do I need to engage regularly in prayer and fasting?

  • Your intimacy with God is limited without prayer and fasting
  • Your faith in God is limited without prayer and fasting
  • Your ability to advance the Kingdom is limited without prayer and fasting
  • Your ability to do the will of God is limited without prayer and fasting
