2 Timothy 3:1-5, 2:19-22, 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

What is holiness?

  • Holiness is moral purity!
  • God is holy: He is righteous, pure and sinless – always doing what is right, proper and true, Deuteronomy 32:4, Isaiah 6:3, Revelation 4:8
  • Holiness is being set apart unto God. This involves separation from worldliness and carnality, 1 John 2:15-17, 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
  • Holiness is total dedication to God. This involves your consecration, sanctification and devotion

What is the opposite of purity?

  • Corruption!
  • We live in a perverse and corrupt generation, Philippians 2:15, 2 Timothy 3:1-5
  • Satan is the corrupted version of Lucifer, Ezekiel 28:15
  • Corruption always destroys what is pure and good!
  • The devil’s goal is to corrupt your body, soul and spirit.
  • The devil’s goal is to damn your soul

What is holiness in my spirit, soul and body?

  • Consecration is holiness of your body. This requires self-denial: abstinence and moderation
  • Sanctification is holiness of your soul. This requires protecting your mind from ungodly content and renewing your mind with the Word
  • Devotion is holiness of your spirit. This requires fellowship, yieldedness and obedience to God
  • Holiness is an act of true worship!
  • Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 7:1

What are the benefits of holiness?

  • You will see God clearly, Matthew 5:8
  • You will worship God acceptably, Romans 12:1-2
  • You will serve God specially, 2 Timothy 2:21
  • You will represent God properly, 1 Peter 1:15-16
  • You will make Heaven certainly, Hebrews 12:14
