What is the evidence of being baptised in the Holy Spirit according to Acts 1:5-8?

  • Power (supernatural ability)!
  • The gifts of the Spirit are the evidence of power (supernatural ability)
  • These gifts are all spiritually endowed upon us by Holy Spirit. You do not acquire them by physical or mental ability.

What are the gifts of the Spirit?

  • The gifts of the Spirit are spiritual tools for spiritual service.
  • All the gifts can be used by every believer according to the needs of their spiritual callings (ministries)
  • There are 9 gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11
  • The gifts of the Spirit help you to function effectively and produce better results in your spiritual service to God

How can we classify the gifts of the Spirit?

  • The 9 gifts can be classified into 3 groups!
  • 3 gifts of revelation (seeing & knowing)
  • 3 gifts of inspiration (utterance, speaking)
  • 3 gifts of action (performance, doing)
  • 1 Corinthians 12:7-11

How many of the 9 gifts of the Spirit can operate in each believer?

  • All believers can operate the 9 gifts of the Spirit at the basic level
  • Most believers operate a few gifts at the advanced level
  • Basic level of the gift of wisdom is knowing in your spirit what will happen and/or what to do
  • Advanced level of the gift of wisdom is knowing graphically (vision or dreams) what will happen and/or what to do
  • Basic level of the gift of knowledge is knowing in your spirit what happened and/or the meaning of it (this also applies to getting spiritual revelation in your Bible Study)
  • Advanced level of the gift knowledge is knowing graphically what happened (visions or dreams) and/or the meaning of it

What is the most basic gift of the Spirit?

  • Speaking in tongues!
  • Speaking in tongues is speaking an unknown language under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
  • This gift is the primary evidence of being baptised in the Holy Spirit as seen in Acts 2:4, 10:44-46, 19:6
  • All believers in Christ can speak in tongues according to Mark 16:17 (but only if they want to!)
  • Speaking in tongues can be used for effective prayer (speaking unto God) or prophesying (speaking unto men)
  • 1 Corinthians 14
  • Speaking in tongues at the basic level is prayer (and praise)
  • All believers can speak in tongues at the basic level (but only if they want to)!

What are the best (most useful) gifts of the Spirit?

  • The gifts of utterance (speaking)!
  • Utterance brings spiritual edification to the individual and to the church
  • 1 Corinthians 14:4-5, Jude 20
  • The 3 gifts of utterance are speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues and prophesying
