Frequently Asked Questions

1. How important is money in our lives today? (Ecclesiastes 10:19, Matthew 6:24, 1 Timothy 6:10)

Very important! We spend most of our waking time working for money. How we handle money says a lot about our spiritual maturity. Money is needful and good, but the love of money is a root of all evil.

We should not serve money. Rather, we are to worship and serve the Lord with our money.

2. What is tithe? (Hebrews 7:1-10, Genesis 14:18-20, Malachi 3:8-12, Genesis 8:22)

Tithe is 10% of your income, given unto the Lord for the running and expansion of His kingdom on earth. Tithing demonstrates that you trust God as your source and recognise that all you own belongs to Him.

Tithing represents your financial commitment to Jesus Christ (the Head) and His Church (the body).

3. What is the difference between tithe and offering? (Leviticus 27:30, Malachi 3:8-12, 2 Cor. 9:6-11)

Your tithe already belongs to God. It is God’s money and it holy unto the Lord. Offerings are variable investments over and above your tithes. A generous giver pays tithes and gives appropriate offerings.

Generous giving is the attitude of replanting my predetermined tithe (10% of whatever income I receive) and variable offerings, as a seed towards tomorrow’s supply, knowing that God is faithful.

 4. Who should pay tithes?(Matthew 23:23, Proverbs 3:9-10, 2 Corinthians 9:6)

Every true believer in Christ should pay tithes. God does not demand 90%. All He requires is 10% as a minimum.

Tithing shows that we trust God with our money and that God can trust us with His money.

 5. Is the payment of tithe voluntary? (1 Samuel 15:22, Hebrews 10:38, James 1:22, Proverbs 10:22)

Yes. In Christianity, everything we do is voluntary. We voluntarily choose to live in obedience to God’s Word. We voluntarily choose to be committed to regularly funding God’s work. We trust and obey!

Tithing is an act of faith and obedience, with expectation of blessing.

 6. Where should I pay my tithe? (Malachi 3:10, Hebrews 7:1-10, 1 Timothy 5:18)

The storehouse: your local church: where you receive regular spiritual nourishment. You pay your tithe directly to the Lord Jesus Christ (the High Priest of the New Covenant) through His Body (the Church).

Don’t pay your tithe to charity, family, friends or the poor; instead give them donations, gifts or alms.

7. When should I pay my tithe? (Proverbs 3:9-10)

First-fruits: as soon as you receive any income (e.g. salary, dividends, benefits, bonuses, cash gifts).

We should pay our tithes to the church as soon as we receive, lest we be tempted to spend it.

8. Does any circumstance exempt me from paying tithe? (Leviticus 27:30, James 1:2-8, Hebrews 10:36)

None! As long as you receive something, tithe it. The need to pay your tithe becomes even more crucial in your times of financial need, for that is when you require more supernatural blessing.

If you tithe your 10% in faith, God’s divine blessing on your 90% will make it go much further.

9. What if I have spent my tithe and cannot pay it? (1 John 1:8-9, James 1:22-25)

All you need do is repent and receive forgiveness, just like you would do with any other wrongdoing in your life. Then determine to do the right thing in the future and ask for grace to help. Then do it!

Tithing is your spiritual insurance policy for all your financial needs.

10. What are the rewards of tithing? (Malachi 3:10-12, Luke 6:38, Proverbs 3:10, 2 Corinthians 9:6)

    • The Lord’s work through the local Church will flourish and prosper.
    • You will experience financial miracles such as divine provision, divine favour, divine promotion, supernatural blessing and financial security (spiritual insurance against the devourer).

Tithing is a foundational step to living by faith and walking in love.
